  3. SECRETARY'S REPORT

    Minutes of previous meeting - August - distributed. Acceptance moved by Jean Keene. Seconded by Joy Shubat.
  4. TREASURER'S REPORT

    Carol Field presented the report. The balance in the Society's account is $3,754.64. Balance as of Sept. 30/04 was $4242.64.
  5. COMMITTEE REPORTS

    • MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE - Tina Stone and Carl Philips

    • SHOW AND JUDGING COMMITTEE - Mary Watson and Barbara Downey

      • Blair is to send Mary Watson info - phone numbers etc. on judges. In the past there has been trouble getting judges.

    • PROGRAM COMMITTEE - Carol Field, Sandra Kirby, Joy Shubat

      • See under New Business.

    • FLYER COMMITTEE - Jill Gellatly and Sheila Jarvis

      • Postponed to December. No report. Bookmark idea is a good one.

    • GARDEN TOUR COMMITTEE - Maria Pedersen, John Lesey, Carl Philips.

      • Maria needs suggestions for next year's gardens: John Lesey, Harris's, Al Henderson, for example.

    • REFRESHMENT COMMITTEE - Jean Keene and Joy Shubat.

      • Joy is retiring from the Refreshment Committee end of '04. Holly Trevelyan is the new member of the committee.
      • Money from tea and refreshments given to treasurer when it amounts to $30 - 50.

    • PHONE COMMITTEE - Jill Gellatly

    • PLANT SALE COMMITTEE - Mary Watson, Kate Agosta, Barb Downey, Blair Michael Day.

    • VOLUNTEER HOURS COMMITTEE - Carl Philips.

      • February deadline for submission of hours - Carl to be aware.

    • SHOW BOOK COMMITTEE - Barb Downey, Kate Agosta, Mary Watson

      • Make sure John Lesey is a life member.
      • Idea of adding extra pages.

    • PUBLICITY - Hans Nielsen

      • For the Annual General Meeting (AGM) we need photos of members' gardens and of projects we have done. Please give the info to Hans for submission to the newspaper.

    • ARCHIVES - Hans Nielsen, with the Assistance of John Arnott

      • Nothing new.

    • MEETING & SET-UP - John Lesey, Carl Philips, Joy Shubat, Jean Keane

      • Joy will talk to Holly re. coming early and working on the refreshment committee.

    • COMMUNITY IN BLOOMS - Lynda Rogers

      • Hans suggested have a committee set up with Schomberg and Nobleton Societies re. our local competition, the former Beautiful King.

    • AWARDS COMMITTEE - Barb Downey, Carol Field, Hans Nielsen.

      • Hans reported that everything is under control.

    • SPECIAL PROJECTS - Sheila Jarvis, Lynda Rogers, Kathy Ball, Joan Jackaman.

      • Joan Jackaman has used Roundup at 13320 Hwy 27 in preparation for the wildflower meadow. She was the only person to turn up to work on Thurs. Oct 7. For the Museum - heritage planting - contact Helen Poulis.
      • Carol is to send info re. Lloydtown cemetery work to Kate, and Maria is to send same re. Wellesly Park work.

  6. NEW BUSINESS

    1. Hans gave a report on the presidential meeting: Insurance - Law Insurance Brokers. Will be in the King newspapers. The next AGM will be at Glen Echo on Apr. 30, 05 and Bolton will be host.
    2. Carol is to ask what the cost would be to rent the whole hall for our Hort. Society meetings. The Flower Show would be downstairs and the meeting upstairs.
    3. Three meetings coming up: Oct. 28, Sunday, in Guelph, -"Volunteers - the use of them for best results. Feb 26 - North York; Date Unknown - Newmarket. We can send 2 members free - Kate and Joy.
    4. It was decided to set up a Volunteer Committee: moved by Joy and seconded by Jean.
    5. Saturday, Oct. 23, Country Day School, 9 - 2, Environmental Program. Do we want to put up a display? Hans.
    6. Project for 2005 - Lilac Garden in Wellesley Park. Plant spring '05. $400 budget for 10 lilac bushes. Donations from members are asked for. This is a long term project - to plant each year, every year. Plant so mower can move between the rows as at RGB. Watering essential the first year. $400 to be set aside for spring 2005 to start the Lilac Garden - moved by Hans, seconded by Joy. available in Sept. 2005.
    7. AGM - last Thursday in November - November 22.
      • There is to be a written Presidential Report by Blair, telling of the year's activities.
      • There will be an audited Treasurer's Report.
      • Joy will cook and cut a turkey.
      • Roz to send out VIP invitations to AGM - to Bert Card, Gladys McClatchy, Margaret Black, Catherine Purcell, Brend Hennan, Lisa Wolfram (who will conduct the program) and to those who have showed their gardens this year. Please check last year's list.
      • Set-up - need to phone helpers.
      • Tina: table cloths
      • Sheila and Maria - table decorations of cedar and ivy.
      • Joy to check if enough table cloths (roll in cupboard) and Christmas napkins.
      • Hans has checked out what it would cost to have an LCBO licence - approx $150. No - too much money.
      • Joy to phone Tina re. punch and juices - tomato and apple.
      • Phone Committee - call to get approximate numbers for dinner and awards purposes.
      • Minutes needed from last year's AGM - Hans to do them.
      • Joy will phone Girl Guides re. doing dishes - cost approx $40.
      • Roz - please send Get Well card to Muriel McTaggart. (She is home from hospital and heart is okay.)
      • An Elsie St. Jacques award for best decorative (most points) was discussed and put on hold until next year.
      • Election - Past President Hans N. is handling this. There are some new board members in mind.
