WELCOME
President, Kate Agosta welcomed everyone to the 2nd meeting
of the 2006 year.

SECRETARY'S REPORT

TREASURER'S REPORT - Carol Field presented the report
- The balance in the Society's account was $2,240.87 as of Jan.
31/06. Moved by Carol and 2nd by John Arnott.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE - Tina Stone, Pat Platt, Maud Featherstone
- Betty Castator has died - the Society will look into
planting a tree in her name.
SHOW AND JUDGING COMMITTEE - Barbara Downey
- March program from last years show book will be used for our first
March meeting of 2006.
- Mary Watson is looking into getting judges.

PROGRAM & TRIP COMMITTEE - Carol Field, Sandra Kirby, Blair Day
- 2006 meetings are scheduled for: March 27, April 24,
Victoria Day on May 22, May 29, Garden Tour on June 25, June 26, day trip
in July to be confirmed, August 28, September 25, October 23 & November 27
for AGM and Banquet.
- Lynn Dobson will help look after the planning
of the July trip which is tentatively scheduled to visit the Niagara
Botanical Gardens and then have lunch at the Niagara Culinary School.
FLYER COMMITTEE - Kate Agosta
- Program flyers were made by Kate Agosta. Copies are ready for
distribution.
- Hans with distribute the flyers are needed.
GARDEN TOUR COMMITTEE - Maria Pedersen, John Lesey, Blair Day
- Garden Tour will take place on Sunday June 25, 2006.
- The committee is still looking for gardens.
REFRESHMENT COMMITTEE - Jean Keane
- Jean will ask for someone to help her on this committee at our March
meeting.

PHONE COMMITTEE - Jill Gellatly
- A new phone list is ready. Serena will mail list to Captians
who do not have e-mail. Kate will e-mail to everyone else.

- The website has been updated and the March show book is on line

PLANT SALE - Kate Agosta, Barb Downey, Mary Watson, Blair Day
- Plant sales are to be scheduled for Victoria Day and in the fall
(Lions Auction?)
- For the Victoria Day sale - dig up plants early and start inside so
they show better - remember to label all plants
- Hans needs contact names to put in the newspapers and Tapestry edition
which lists all of our events. Blair's name and number will be used
for the King City contact and will ask Kathy Ball if hers can be used for
Nobleton.
- Sale at the Lions auction will be looked into by Serena
Edmunds - still waiting for a date from the Lions.

VICTORIA DAY PARADE - John Lesey, Carol Field
- Float is ready - it just needs to be set up. John will
look after flowers.

VOLUNTEER HOURS COMMITTEE - Maud Featherstone
- Barb Downey will look after volunteer hours until the end of February,
then will pass on information to Maud.
- Please give all hours to Barb as the forms are due Feb. 28, 2006.
Last year we had 1200 hours!!!.

SHOW BOOK COMMITTEE - Barb Downey, Kate Agosta, Mary Watson
- The final draft of the show book is ready and will be sent to the
printers. The book will remain mainly the same, but with the
addition of Special Projects.

PUBLICITY & ARCHIVES - Hans Neilson, John Arnott
- Hans is looking into getting our Society's info into gardening
magazines such as Harrowsmith and newspapers.
- Kate will get Hans the address for the Halton Hills - Caledon paper.
- Archives can now go to the library's new system.
- We are looking for items to use for our 50th Anniversary in 2 years.

MEETINGS & SET-UP - John Lesey, Blair Day
- Kate will be at the Hall at 6:30 to open up.
- John made two backdrops for taking pictures
of flowers.
FRONT YARD COMPETITION - Hans Neilson, Carol Fields, Blair Day

SPECIAL PROJECTS - to confirm who is on this committee
- Need to get members involved - will ask
at next meeting.
- A list of all gardens with contacts will be in the 2006 show book.
- The person in charge of the garden will see about looking after it and
getting people to help when help is needed.
AWARDS COMMITTEE - Kate Agosta, Blair Day, Carol Field, Barb Downey,
Maud Featherstone
- Hans will get all the information needed to Blair.

COMMUNITY IN BLOOMS - Lynda Rogers
- Sponsorship Committee has it sponsorship packs out already.
Helen Lucas has designed a new banner with our new logo on it. A
professional graphic designer was used.
- Tour Committee is working on the Parks and Recreation Book. They
will be asking for our Societies events and Kate's name as a contact.
- The Flower Committee is working on 400 hanging baskets and 400 buckets
as well as 7+ in ground beds and the plantings around park signs in the township.
- There is an ad in the paper for an Horticulturist - it will be a 12
month position.
- An Economic Development Officer will be involving the Horticultural
Society in some way. They will be able to advertise more readily.
We can also put a free posting on the York Region Tourism website -
www.york.on
- The Museum is to get a face lift also. Replacement trees will be
planted for the Maple and Fir tree that were lost due to lightening and
disease.

NEW BUSINESS
- Grant proposal was sent in and has been accepted.
- Motion was
made by Kate Agotsta and 2nd by Sandra Kirby that the Society send a $100.00
donation to the Henry Kock Memorial Fund - all in favour. Carol Field
will prepare cheque and send it in.
- Blair Day will go to BTN and get a
Hackberry to plant as a memorial to Betty Castator. Sandra Kirby will
look into letting the family know. We will ask the township to dig the
hole.
- Sympathy cards were sent to Tina Stone and Roz Elson on the loss of
their mother.
- Discussed the option to have memorials made for the lilac
garden - deferred.
- Something to think about - ask Township to start King
Township Arboretums so that parks in the township can be planted with native
trees that need to be preserved.
- Lynda let us know that Tom Dobson from
the Parks Committee wants to plant a tree for each person in the Township
each year. Lynda made a motion that a Horticultural Society Member
should be part of the King Township Parks Tree Committee so information
about native trees could be shared - 2nd by Carol Field and Barb Downey

John Lesey made us aware of the Historical tree that is part of the Humber
trails.
- District 15 AGM will be held on April 29, 2006. $25.00 for
registration.
- Convention in Ottawa is August 11- 13, 2006.

NEXT BOARD MEETING
Wednesday April 19th, 2006 from 9:30 am
to 11:30 am, at the St. Albans Anglican Church, in Nobleton.
Church is located on Hwy. 27 - north of King Road on the west side.
