MINUTES

  1. WELCOME

    President, Michael Blair Day welcomed everyone. Thanks to Maria for hosting the meeting.

  2. ATTENDANCE

    Attending:   Michael Blair Day, Hans Nielsen, Kate Agosta, Mary Watson, Maria Pedersen, Roz Elson, Joy Shubat, Joan Jackaman, Carol Field, Barb Downey, Jill Gellatly, John Lesey, Gail Hughes, Sandra Kirby, Carl Phillips, Jean Keane, Tina Stone, John Arnott, Serena Edmunds

    Absent:   Linda Rogers, Nola Stacey, Holly Trevelyn

  3. SECRETARY'S REPORT

    Minutes of previous meeting - Oct. 14 -   Accepted.  Thanks to Carol & Roz for the minutes.

  4. TREASURER'S REPORT

    Carol Field presented the report. The balance forward in the Society's account was $3,713.67.   Prizes and Awards of $729.96 - debit.  Final balance $2,983.71.

  5. COMMITTEE REPORTS

    • MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE - Tina Stone and Carl Philips

      • 83 members, 2004
      • Thanks to Carl for his help.  Carl is leaving so Tina needs a volunteer for this committee.

    • SHOW AND JUDGING COMMITTEE - Mary Watson and Barbara Downey

      • March 21st, 2005 meeting will be upstairs. For April meeting try reversing the chair set up to stop people walking through the judging area.
      • Volunteer point recorders needed to help judge each month - preferably someone who does not show.
      • Novice Cup will be shared, 6 months to each winner.

    • PROGRAM COMMITTEE - Carol Field, Sandra Kirby

      • Regular meeting dates for 2005 as follows:   March 21, April 25, May 30, June 26 (Garden Tour), June 27, August 22, October 1 (Tea), October 24, November 28 (Banquet and Award Evening). Motion made by Joy Shubat to accept these dates - 2nd by Roz Elson.
      • October 1 - Plant Sale/Flower Show:  11 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Location to be decided.  Blair to look into the St Paul's Pres. Church in Nobleton and Carol Fields to look into the WI Hall.
      • Interest was shown in having members give short talks on their areas of expertise. John Lesey will do a talk on roses possibly in June.

    • FLYER COMMITTEE - Jill Gellatly

      • The flyer for this year needs to be updated. Tina Stone will ask her husband about producing this years. The new program dates will be needed. The flyer should be available for distribution by mid-February.
      • Jill would like to withdraw from the committee.

    • GARDEN TOUR COMMITTEE - Maria Pedersen, John Lesey, Carl Philips.

        Garden Tour will take place on Sunday June 26, 2005. Maria ran through the gardens she is considering. Let her know of any garden you know of that would be willing to be part of the tour

    • REFRESHMENT COMMITTEE - Jean Keane and Holly Trevelyen.

        $30.00 in petty cash.

       

    • PHONE COMMITTEE - Jill Gellatly

        A new membership list is needed.

    • TRIP COMMITTEE -

        A July trip to the Barrie Arboretum and an August trip to Merlin's Hollow are planned.

    • VOLUNTEER HOURS COMMITTEE - Carl Philips.

      • Someone is needed to look after volunteer hours when Carl Phillips leaves.
      • Volunteer hours still need to be submitted for February deadline.
      • Categories :  planting and preparation, maintenance, youth activities, executive and board meetings and other.

    • SHOW BOOK COMMITTEE - Barb Downey, Kate Agosta, Mary Watson

      • It was suggested to add roses to the October show book.
      • Any suggestions for the new show book, especially ideas for the decorative class, need to be submitted by January 15, 2005.
      • New horticultural hints are needed.
      • Picture for the front page of the show book is also needed.

    • MEETING & SET-UP - John Lesey, Carl Philips, Joy Shubat, Jean Keane

        See note on April meeting set-up under Show and Judging.

    • COMMUNITY IN BLOOMS - Lynda Rogers

        Hans and Lynda will help set up a committee with Schomberg in regards to the Front Yard competition.

    • AWARDS COMMITTEE - Barb Downey, Carol Field, Hans Nielsen.

        Hans wants people to think about what awards need to be given.

    • SPECIAL PROJECTS - Sheila Jarvis, Lynda Rogers, Kathy Ball, Joan Jackaman.

        Joan Jackaman has planted select wildflowers for spring, summer & fall display in a Wildflower border in front of Nobleton Seniors school.

  6. NEW BUSINESS

    1. Pictures are needed for the the annual meeting at Glen Eagle.
    2. Kate Agosta - The OHA will have a special purple tulip available for sale as a fund raiser - we would get $1 per bag. The bags will cost $8-10 and will be available in Sept. 2005.
    3. It was suggested that each executive member have a copy of the Society Constitution.  The old  one needs to be looked at closer.  Hans is to make a copy. Volunteers are needed to study and update our current Constitution.

  7. NEXT EXECUTIVE MEETING

    Thursday, February 10, 2004 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, at the Senior's Centre on Fisher Street, King City.
