  1. WELCOME

    President, Kate Agosta welcomed everyone.

  2. ATTENDANCE

  5. COMMITTEE REPORTS

    • MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE - Tina Stone, Pat Platt, Maud Featherstone

      • Muriel Mactaggart died March 29, 2006 - she was a founding member - the Society will look into planting a tree in her name.
      • We had 59 members after our last meeting.
      • Tina will e-mail master list to Serena so she can update e-mail addresses and forward to executive

    • SHOW AND JUDGING COMMITTEE - Barbara Downey

    • PROGRAM & TRIP COMMITTEE - Carol Field, Sandra Kirby, Blair Day

      • Lynn Dobson and Blair Day will help look after the planning of the July trip which is tentatively scheduled to visit the Niagara Botanical Gardens and then have lunch at the Niagara Culinary School.  They will have information for the May meeting.

    • FLYER COMMITTEE - Kate Agosta

      • Should the flyer committee  be combined with the Program & Trip Committee as this committee has the information needed to produce the flyer?

    • GARDEN TOUR COMMITTEE - Maria Pedersen, John Lesey, Blair Day

      • Garden Tour will take place on Sunday June 25, 2006.
      • The committee is still looking for gardens.  6 gardens are confirmed so far.  Maud will ask neighbours about their gardens.  Flyers have been designed by Maria's son-in-law, Brian.   Maria will look after getting them printed before the District 15 meeting.

    • REFRESHMENT COMMITTEE - Jean Keane

      • Jean will ask for someone to help her on this committee at our April meeting.  Maybe ask Sheila to assist.

    • PHONE COMMITTEE - Jill Gellatly

      • Tina will send phone list to Jill.

    • WEBSITE - www. altflora.com/nobleton. Kate Agosta.

      • The website has been updated.  Carol Hall is helping with the website.

    • PLANT SALE - Kate Agosta, Barb Downey, Mary Watson, Blair Day

      • Plant sale is scheduled for Victoria Day.
      • For the Victoria Day sale - dig up plants early and start inside so they show better - remember to label all plants and add picture if possible - remember to label all invasive/vigorous plants.  Plants to be dropped off at Blair Day's.
      • Kate is to give Barb registration form
      • Blair is to phone Maureen Richardson to get information on parade location and time as well as booking 2 tables for plant sale.
      • Should we contact Michelle Coulter - BTN - about plants for re-sale?
      • Schomberg plant sale is on May 6, 2006

    • VICTORIA DAY PARADE - John Lesey, Carol Field

      • John has asked to purchase outdoor carpeting for the float.  Motion by John Lesey, seconded by Maud.
      • Carol is to drive the float.  Help is needed to set up the float.  If you can help, please come to the back of the Nobleton library at 10:00 a.m., the day of the parade.

    • VOLUNTEER HOURS COMMITTEE - Maud Featherstone

      • Please give all hours to Maud.   So far no hours have been given.

    • SHOW BOOK COMMITTEE - Barb Downey, Kate Agosta, Mary Watson

      • Show book is out.  One has been submitted for the District 15 competition.
      • Barb is to send one to the OHA.

    • PUBLICITY & ARCHIVES - Hans Neilson, John Arnott

      • We are looking for items to create a booklet to commemorate our 50th Anniversary.
      • Hans will see about getting or borrowing Muriel's scrapbooks.
      • OHA Trillium Newsletter can be accessed online from a link on our website

    • MEETINGS & SET-UP - John Lesey, Blair Day

      • Blair can not help set up.
      • Call Lynda to see about the possibility of a high school student setting up for volunteer hours.
      • Blair to ask Dan about setting up microphones so speakers can be heard.
      • Blair or Jean will lock-up at the April 24th meeting - please get key back to Kate.

    • FRONT YARD COMPETITION - Hans Neilson, Carol Fields, Blair Day

      • Township is looking at taking pictures for the competition.  The Society does not like this method as a picture does not show what the garden is truly like.  They would prefer the tour method so the whole front yard could be seen.

    • SPECIAL PROJECTS - Blair Day, Lynda Rodgers

      • Kate made a motion that a person in charge of a garden can purchase flowers for it to a max. of $40.00. 2nd by John A.  If you require more, you need to come to the board for approval.

    • AWARDS COMMITTEE - Kate Agosta, Blair Day, Carol Field, Barb Downey, Maud Featherstone

    • COMMUNITY IN BLOOMS - Lynda Rogers

      • Helen Lucas has designed a new banner with our new logo on it.  The banners will be going up soon.
      • King Township will be judged on August 9 - 10, 2006.
      • A report needs to be made showing gardens in the Township with regards to speciality plants, unique combinations, & healthy gardening to show how broad a  base we have.
      • Kate will send a list to the Township.
      • Nobleton Senior School needs help-Lynda to bring up at Monday's meeting.

  6. NEW BUSINESS

    1. John Arnott will say a few words at our next meeting in memory of Muriel Mactaggart.
    2. Blair Day is looking into getting a Hackberry to plant as a memorial to Betty Castator.  He will also look into a sugar maple for Muriel.  Blair noted that the proper procedure was to go directly through Catherine Purcell of the Township and they will look after everything.  Going directly to BTN caused confusion.
    3. The McMichael Art Gallery has asked if our Society will have a table at their event on Sunday July 23, 2006.  They will donate $200.00 to our Society if we participate.  We would need to set up a table with anything we like.  The theme is flowers.  Motion to enter by Carol F., seconded by John A..
    4. OHA tulips have been planted at the library, Wessley Park and the hosta garden.
    5. The Society will insert a $25.00 size ad in the OHA 100th anniversary brochure.  Kate will look after this.
    6. In connection to the OHA 100th anniversary we will have a OHA Historical minute at the beginning of each meeting this year.  Kate will do the April meeting - Trillium.  Blair will do May and John A. will do June.
    7. Serena will see about the availability of special flower stamps to be used on correspondence .
    8. District 15 AGM will be held on April 29, 2006.  Kate will look after getting the door prize.  John Arnott, Jill Gellatly and Kate Agosta will be attending.
    9. Convention in Ottawa is August 11- 13, 2006.  July 13th is the deadline for pre-registration.  Those attending are asked to provide a report of events to be posted on the bulletin board.
    10. Carol made a motion to get Peter Stevens from Humber Nursery to do a design for the King City Library with approval by Catherine Purcell.  The design is approx. $80.00 with a $20.00 coupon for use at Humber Nursery.  2nd by Jean K.
    11. The Township of King Annual Volunteer Recognition Night will be held on Wed. May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Schomberg Community Recreation Centre - 251 Western Ave., Schomberg.
    12. Kate will look after sending in a memorial tribute in the Trillium for Betty Castator and Muriel Mactaggart.
    13. Hans and Blair will look after the Societies ad space in the Parks & Rec. Book.  Lynda will let them know when it is needed.
    14. Blair will look after giving out packages of seeds again at the Victoria Day Parade in Nobleton.  Lynda will get him the seeds for the packages.
    15. April 29th is the Township clean-up day.
