MINUTES

  1. WELCOME

    President, Michael Blair Day welcomed everyone and thanked them for their continuing service to the community and the society.

  2. ATTENDANCE

  3. SECRETARY'S REPORT

    Please note correction under Show Books - Should have read - Service Awards should be included as Floral Awards has always been included - Minutes of previous meeting - April 14/05 - Moved by Hans Neilson - 2nd by Barb Downey - Accepted.

  4. TREASURER'S REPORT - Carol Field presented the report

    • The balance in the Society's account was $3,620.87.
    • The Society received a $1000.00 grant plus paid memberships.
    • Money has been distributed for speakers, supplies and show books.
    • Delegates attending the Annual General Meeting should submit their $25.00 cheque to Carol Field. Blair Day is to get a $25.00 gift for a door prize.
    • Barb Downey has the schedule to show flowers.
    • Sandra Kirby was reimbursed $60.00 for the 600 copies of the 2005 flyer. Printing was done by BEACON PRESS LTD, 10 Railway Street - Maple, Ontario L6A 1P6 (905) 832-2231

  5. COMMITTEE REPORTS

    • MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE - Tina Stone

      • Deferred to next meeting as Tina was absent.

    • SHOW AND JUDGING COMMITTEE - Mary Watson and Barbara Downey

      • March 21st, 2005 show went well. 
      • Volunteer point recorders are still needed to help judge each month - preferably someone who does not show- will ask at next meeting.
      • Barb has oasis for sale (Approx. $1.50 each)

    • PROGRAM COMMITTEE - Carol Field, Sandra Kirby

      • All speakers are lined up.
      • Program Committee to invite Schomberg, Woodbridge, Aurora and Bolton Societies to our May 30/05 meeting.
      • One invitation to each Society also for our September flower show.

    • GARDEN TOUR COMMITTEE - Maria Pedersen, John Lesey, Carl Philips

      • Garden Tour will take place on Sunday June 26, 2005.
      • John Lessey is making stands for the Garden Tour and will modify the old stands that Carol has.
      • Garden Tour poster is almost ready - it should be ready for District meeting.  500 flyers and 25 posters are to be printed - cost from Quick Copy was $120.00 - will check to see how much Beacon Press Ltd. would be.
      • More people are needed to volunteer for the Garden Tour.
      • More gardens are still needed.
      • Will look into the possibility of a virtual tour on our website next year.

    • PHONE COMMITTEE - Jill Gellatly

      • A new membership list is needed - Blair will call Tina.

    • WEBSITE - www. altflora.com/nobleton. Kate Agosta.

      • The website has been updated.  Hans article is updated every month.  Holly has been sending pot porri.  The site is in need of photos - please give any you have to Kate.
      • Jules Mauleffinch -  maybe can take photos and edit them - Kate will ask.
      • Someone is needed to write up a few lines for the List of Products.

    • TRIP COMMITTEE -

      • A July trip to the Barrie Arboretum the same day as the Barrie Horticulture's Garden Tour is being looked into.
      • A trip to Brookdale Treeland Nursery after Paul Olsen speaks to us on June 27/05 is also being planned.

    • PLANT SALE

      • Members are asked to start potting plants for the Victoria Day sale.
      • Hans will put an article in the paper - please no invasive plants.
      • Plants can be dropped off at Blair's house.
      • A new Banner is needed to hang up at the shows.
      • Blair is to make up 100 packages of sunflower seeds to give out to the kids.
      • Invitations to Schomberg, Woodbridge, Aurora and Bolton Societies should be sent out inviting them to our Fall Flower Show, Tea and Plant Sale and letting them know of the Children's Division.
      • Carol will confirm the October 1 date for the Old Community Hall.

    • VICTORIA DAY PARADE - John Lessey

      • Blair has paperwork to be submitted to Maureen Richardson - coordinator - please indicate the number of tables we need.
      • Blair to contact RONA manager (Weston Rd - South of 7) to see about getting the loan of flowers for float - they need their sign to show somewhere.  Please send request on letterhead.
      • Will ask at April meeting for spring flowers to use on float as well as volunteers to get float ready
      • John will recruit some girls to help on float

    • VOLUNTEER HOURS COMMITTEE - Barb Downey

      • Hours are submitted on a calendar year basis.
      • Volunteer hour slips will be available at the entrance table each month - we need to remind members to fill them out and give them to Barb.

    • SHOW BOOK COMMITTEE - Barb Downey, Kate Agosta, Mary Watson

      • A bad job was done on the printing - Kate will see about getting 1 redone so it can be submitted for judging at the Annual General Meeting. She will also look into getting a refund.

    • FRONT YARD COMPETITION - Hans Neilson

      • Entry forms are available at the Township Office, Libraries and website.
      • We should ask Murray McCabe about having our website as a link on their website.

    • SPECIAL PROJECTS - Sheila Jarvis, Lynda Rogers, Kathy Ball, Joan Jackaman.

      • Joan Jackaman needs help as well as plants for the Wildflower Garden project - will ask at next meeting.
      • A motion was made by Lynda Rogers and 2nd by Carol Field to support the Lilac garden.  Maria will help with the design and Blair will go to the Township to say we will proceed with this project.
      • Some of the plants at the four corners are not doing well and will need to be replaced - we should put aside a few dollars to do this - also a copy should be sent to the Township to let them know as work along that area disturbed the plants.
      • Blair will submit a choice of tree and location to Catherine Purcelle for the Gladys Bible planting in the Hill Farm Meadow.  Carol will look into getting a Red Maple from BTN.

    • COMMUNITY IN BLOOMS - Lynda Rogers

      • Judges will be in town on August 7th and 8th, 2005.  Our judges will be James Williams and Mark Lalonde.
      • A commitment from everyone in the township is needed.
      • April 23rd is clean up day
      • May 7th is the Community in Bloom kick-off at the Kingsbridge Centre where there will be a community craft for the kids.

  6. NEW BUSINESS

    1. Orders are needed for Vessey Bulbs.
    2. The OHA Convention will take place on August 12th - 14th/05 in North Bay - who would like to go?

  7. NEXT EXECUTIVE MEETING

    Thursday, July 7th, 2005 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, at the home of Maria Pedersen.
